Painter. Illustrator. Mess-maker.
My painting practice moves between intuition and intention, exploring mark-making through materials like egg tempera, natural pigments, ceramics, and embroidery. Drawing from literature—ranging from modern philosophy to ancient mythology—I create visual narratives that feel both familiar and ambiguous, evoking a sense of tethered disorientation. Symbolic forms emerge in strange landscapes, playing with perspective, myth and memory. Throughout my work I use the return to nature as a soft place to land amidst a shifting and fractured space.
Based in both New Orleans and New York, Emily (Em) is currently a MFA candidate for Art Practice, a low-residency program at the School of the Visual Art in NYC.
